VDOP Vertical dilution of precision. See DOP and PDOP
Velocity Made Good (VMG) Digital speed reading (similar to SOG) that compensates for progress being made toward a waypoint. For example, when traveling directly on course toward a waypoint, the SOG and VMG readings may match. However, when traveling off course, the VMG reading will typically be slower than the SOG. VMG is a true indication of the speed being made to selected waypoint.
Vernal equinox The intersection of the celestial equator with the ecliptic, with the positive sense being from the Earth to the sum, as the sun crosses the equator from south to north.
Vertical The line perpendicular to the geoid at any point. The direction of the force of gravity at that point. Plumb line.
VOR Very High Frequency Omnidirectional Range
VORTAC combined VOR and TACAN
VSFB Very Short Fixed Baseline. A bar of fixed length(typically 250mm) containing a compass which is used to initialise Kinematic surveys.
