| VDOP |
Vertical dilution of precision. See DOP and PDOP |
| Velocity Made Good (VMG) |
Digital speed reading (similar to SOG) that compensates for
progress being made toward a waypoint. For example, when traveling
directly on course toward a waypoint, the SOG and VMG readings
may match. However, when traveling off course, the VMG reading
will typically be slower than the SOG. VMG is a true indication
of the speed being made to selected waypoint. |
| Vernal equinox |
The intersection of the celestial equator with the ecliptic,
with the positive sense being from the Earth to the sum, as
the sun crosses the equator from south to north. |
| Vertical |
The line perpendicular to the geoid at any point. The direction
of the force of gravity at that point. Plumb line. |
| VOR |
Very High Frequency Omnidirectional Range |
| VORTAC |
combined VOR and TACAN |
| VSFB |
Very Short Fixed Baseline. A bar of fixed length(typically
250mm) containing a compass which is used to initialise Kinematic
surveys. |
